On Sunday, 20 September, Catherine took us to the forest for a walk and to look for mushrooms. We found a few, but most of them were not edible. Or, at least we weren't going to take a chance.
Just a few of the mushrooms we found in the forest
We came upon an apple orchard along our walk
Catherine Brys, our host.
We decided we might as well pick a few apples while we were out and about. All in a days work! hehehe
We came upon this old abandoned monestary in the forest
We picked a few English Walnuts from the roadside on our way back to Fussy. Great for an afternoon snack.
On Sunday afternoon Catherine took us to a "pick your own" fruit and vegetable farm. She needed a few items and asked us to pick some strawberries for her.
David wanted some rasberries
A little friend helping to mow the grass
This was the line of people waiting to buy their goods.
More pictures of the goodies we get to eat. This was an apple crumble with vanilla sauce.
Bread pudding made from crossaints right out of the oven
Main course was fish with eggplant. Delicious!
This was one of our lunches with several spreads, vegetables and prawns.
On Thursday Catherine drove us to see a friend of hers who has a goat farm and sells goat cheese at the Bourges market every Saturday. Unfortunately, he was not there. Below are a few pictures of his farm.
Catherine with a few curious goats
This little goat loved the attention!
The kitchen where they make the cheese
The goat farmer also has a bee hive
Back a Catherine's Hotel. Linda likes being a barista!
On Friday after work we decided to take one more day-trip in Bourges to climb the 396 North Tower steps of the Saint Etienne Cathedral. Wonderful views at the top!
Going up!
Getting higher!
At the top!
The Cathedral Gardens
After touring the cathedral tower we walked around Bourges again and found this Luthier shop and decided to go in to look around. Really nice guy, spoke English really well too.
A few more streets of Bourges
Razorbacks! They are everywhere!!! Go Hogs!
Waiting at the bus stop
Friday night Catherine was having a "Lebanese Night". Our starter was a cucumber couscous salad.
Lebanese Bread
Our main course was Salmon with Tomatoes and Leeks
Our dessert was some sort of baklava. Really good!
At dinner we were talking with one of Catherine's friends, Didier. During our conversation he told us about his Father being a prisoner in the Auschwitz consentration camp. This is now the 2nd person we've met, while in France, with a story linked to the Holocaust. Dedier said his father was in Auschwitz and escaped twice. He was recaptured the first time, but escaped the second time with several other people and made it to a U.S. camp where they were taken care of; three died after their rescue.
Just a few more days left in this region of France. We're off tomorrow to tour the Loire Valley and then off to Paris for a couple of days before going to Slovakia for the month of October. Stay tuned!
