Our first day and after just a little bit of work, we walked 5 miles to the center of Bourges. Bourges, France is an ancient medieval city and was the capital of the French Kingdom. Below are a few pictures but we were only there a few hours so we will have to go back to see more. We caught a bus back to Fussy just in time for dinner.
Lots of cobblestone streets and half timbered houses.
Nearing the Cathedral. The North Tower is 216 feet tall and has 390 steps. We plan on walking up it next time we visit.
Saint Etienne Cathedral built beginning in 1194 and completed in 1255
Inside the cathedral
Just a few of the stained glass windows
We actually worked in the morning, but wanted to post the pictures of Bourges first. First job was to replace an old toilet in one of the hotel rooms.
David the plumber
Voila`! We didn't know, but the French use this word a lot too! You say it "Waalaa". Our host loves bright colors. We love it here!
Our next job was to hang these headboard curtains for 3 of the rooms. All in a 1/2 days work!
We passed by this gorgeous garden, along the sidewalk, in Fussy.
Time for another wonderful dinner.
Beef with mushrooms and a potato cake
Our dessert was a pear croissant pudding with vanilla sauce. Catherine uses the leftover croissants that are not eaten for breakfast to make a bread pudding. Incredible!
This is how we both felt after dinner! We did walk 2 miles after our dinner and then ran 3 miles the next morning. I think we need to do more than that to keep up with the food we are consuming!
On Friday morning David worked on some lighting at the front of the restaurant.
Linda washed the breakfast dishes.
Pavola shells - We see a dessert in the making.
Linda got to learn and help make pate`. First was chicken liver pate`.
Putting it into small dishes to store.
Linda and Catherine
Next we made rabbit pate`.
This is the rabbit after the meat was ground and spices added.
Ready to put in the oven.
Voila`!
Meanwhile, David put together new beds that were delivered today.
And he took apart a dishwasher that hasn't worked in over a year. He found it needs a few parts, but is hoping he can get it working.
Baked pear we had at lunch today.
After lunch Catherine took us to her neighbor's house to have a dip in the pool. We stuck our feet in for a little while, but the temperature of the water was at 75 degrees.
