More Adventures, Work and an Anniversary

We've been in Egliseneuve d' Entraigues for over 2 weeks now and time is flying!  We enjoy our early morning runs, but the village is in a valley with hills all around so we usually have to walk up the hills at least one mile before we start our run.  The views are pretty amazing.

View on one of our morning runs
We sometimes have to dodge a tractor or two
One of David's projects was to make 3 tables from some old table tops our hosts had on hand.

Linda irons a lot of sheets, pillow cases and placemats, but when we first arrived their commercial ironing machine was broken so the ironing had to be done by hand.  This week the new machine arrived and made life much nicer!

Another wonderful meal - Fried Brie with Apples
Prosciutto with Carrot and Mushroom Risotto
Another goreous evening walk
On Thursday there weren't any hotel guests so Linda asked if she
could cook dinner; Anita gladly let her.

David even helped decorate the plates.
Finishing up the signs - Linda brushed on the sealer.
Now to put the signs in the ground.  Our hosts had to get permission with 2 farmers for the signs to be put on their property on the edge of the village.  One was put at the North end and the other at the South end of town.

This tool and a shovel was all they had for David to use to make the holes for the posts.
The first sign is in!  A neighbor (Phillipe) helped haul the signs to the location.

Afternoon snacks
This was our 34th Anniversary!  Yes...we worked but didn't mind.  Our dinner was good!
Saturday morning...Ready to put the 2nd sign in the ground.  Here's a short video of David working with the hand auger.

 2nd sign is up!
Now to end this post with an adventure story....
A young German "workaway" girl was due to arrive today.  She took a train from where she lives in Germany to Clermont Ferrand and took the bus to Besse.  The bus only comes to Egliseneuve on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays so our hosts told her they would pick her up in Besse.  Well, our hosts had a family situation come up and Alexander had to drive to the Netherlands for a week leaving us and Anita without a car.  Anita asked if we would mind going to Besse to meet the girl when she gets off the bus.  A friend of Anita's was driving in the direction of Besse and said she could drop us off.  Then, once we met up with the German girl, she told us we could go to this certain restaurant in the town and ride back to Eglisenueve with the owner of the restaurant when they closed after lunch.  So....we ride to Besse with a nice French lady who doesn't speak a word of English.  She drops us off close to where the bus stops and drives away.  We wait 20 minutes or so for the bus, but it doesn't come.  We decide to go to the restaurant thinking we may have missed the bus, and the girl.  The restaurant is closed.  We think for a little bit on what we should do and we see a young blond-haired girl walking up the sidewalk with a backpack on.  When she gets close, we ask if her name is Paulina and it is.  So...we tell Paulina our dilemma and decided the only thing we can do is to hitchhike back to Eglisenueve. (18 km or 11 miles)  We walk to the edge of town and stick out our thumbs.  It takes about 10-15 minutes before someone stops to see where we need to go.  Once we told the man where we were going he said (in very broken English) he can take us part way there.  He drove us 10 km before he had to turn in another direction, so we still had 8 km to go.  We started walking and sticking out our thumbs at every car that drove by.  After walking about 4 km a man stopped in a small car.  His front seat was filled to the ceiling and the back seat of his car had a Rottweiler in it.  He got out of his car and had to rearrange his whole back seat, the small trunk space and his front seat to make room for us, but he was very nice.  Below is a picture of the man and his car.  It was a fun afternoon!
Stay tuned for coming attractions!
