Our Final Weeks in Italy

We spent our final weeks in Italy working a little and seeing a lot!  We were able to visit many of our favorite little villages along with a few new ones.

This is the square of Palmanova; the city is built in the shape of a star.

Outer valley around Palmanova from ancient times
Just a few kilometers from Palmanova is the coastal town of Grado.  This area is popular with the Italians from the North.
Gelato along the beach in Grado!
After leaving Grado we stopped at a field of "Raps" also known as "Rapeseed" (used for Canola oil) to get a picture of the beautiful yellow flowering plants.
Another great village in this same area is Aquileia.  Above is a picture of the bell tower at the Basilica of Aquileia.
Aquileia was a colony founded by the Romans in 180 BC.  The photo above are old Roman column ruins just outside the town.
One of the projects we worked on while here was to clean out and organize this storage room at the church and paint the floor.  Linda started sweeping but then David took over.
It went a little quicker using the blower
David applying the primer to the floor
Linda cutting in the edges with a brush
 David rolling on the paint

Floor painted and everything back in neat and organized
This was taken on Palm Sunday worshipping at Serenissima
We took another trip up into the Dolomites to the town of Belluno.  We passed this bridge over the River Piave along the way.

Driving back down from the mountains we stopped at another of our favorite Prosecco Wineries in this area - Villa Sandi
 We did some prosecco tasting
Back on another project - painting Rob and Sandy's kitchen

On the kitchen's end wall, Rob and Sandy wanted it painted using a kind of crushed-velvet feeling paint, with a textured look, which had to be applied with a trowel.  Another skill to be added to David's list!

Another of our favorite wineries is Ca Madresca!  We got to know the owner, Adriano when we lived here and it was great being able to see and visit with him again.
And...we did a little wine tasting while we were there!  Such a great host!
The church wants to put a workshop/storage shed in the back of the church so David and Dani started preparing the ground for it.

Almost level - Time for the rain to help smooth things out.
David installed a few lights in Rob and Sandy's house

On Easter Sunday after church we stopped by our old neighbor's house and visited with Ferruccio.  He is 86 years old now and still very active in his garden.  He said it was a great present for us to stop and see him.
On Easter "Monday" the church had a "Grillata" as the Italians would say.  Ribs, chicken, sausage and polenta along with lots of side dishes.

And what better way to end an Italian trip than with Tiramisu!

We head out tomorrow to Switzerland where we are meeting up with a couple we met on our South American cruise.
