We arrived back in Norway on Saturday Oct 1st, this time in the peninsula of Nesodden in the Oslo Fjord. We flew in to Oslo, and with very precise directions from our next hosts, took a train from the airport into the city, then took a ferry across the fjord, and then took a bus to get to their house. Our hosts, Leif and Anne Beth, have been one of the most gracious and generous hosts we've met so far. They are very busy in their jobs and community, but still had time to share with and make us feel at home.
Below is a picture of their beautiful timber home
On Sunday we enjoyed a wonderful 11 mile walk around the peninsula of Nesodden
We stopped half way for a coffee break at a great restaurant/cafe recommended by our host
Beautiful scenes all along the coast
On Monday we started our first task of helping to clean out their garage
We worked only one day and was given a day off to tour Oslo. Below is a picture of Oslo's City Hall.
The National Gallery
The Royal Palace - The 19th century residence of the King and Queen of Norway
We just so happened to come across the American Embassy. It was nice seeing our American flag in Oslo.
This is Vigeland Sculpture Park. Gustav Vigeland is a Norwegian sculptor who also designed the Noble Peace Prize medal. Interesting sculptures thoughout the park.
We then visited the iconic ski jump of Holmenkollbakken. This area has had ski competitions for over 100 years.
We headed back into the city and walked along the Akerselva River and came across some pretty neat street art and graffiti
Back on the ferry returning to Nesodden after a wonderful day in Oslo
Lighthouse in the Oslo Fjord
Below are a few of the jobs we were able to accomplish during our week here.
Picking pears from one of their trees.
Their fruit-pickers needed repair. Linda sewed them so they will be ready for next year.
Emptying out the compost bin - Fun job!
David repairing a window in the bathroom
Linda planted some strawberry plants in the garden
David replacing some facia boards on the house
Sanding and painting some garden chairs
On Friday evening, Leif and Anne Beth invited us to dinner and to attend a film festival with them in Oslo. This photo is a sculpture outside the theater.
We went back into Oslo on Saturday for another day to tour the city and to watch another film. This is Aker Brygge where the ferries come in.
The Noble Peace Center in Oslo
On Sunday, we walked (and ran) around the Bomansvik area one last time. Such a beautiful area!
These are just a few of the wonderful meals we got to share this week with our hosts. Leif and Anne Beth were so nice to welcome us and let us enjoy some of Norway's traditional foods. We got to eat whale, reindeer and many other wonderful foods, but most importantly we got to share it with great company, and new friends!
We cooked tacos, homemade salsa, and margaritas for our last evening together. Leif and Anne Beth's daughter Ida was able to join us as well.
Excuse our "just getting out of bed look" but Leif and Anne Beth had to leave early on Monday. Saying our goodbyes or "until next time!"
