We flew from Christchurch, New Zealand to Melbourne, Australia on Saturday, March 26. We arrived late so we found an Air B&B near the train station to spend the night. Our apartment was on the 42nd floor with wonderful views overlooking the city.
Enjoying Australian coffee with our breakfast before taking the train to Albury.
Our good friends, Len and Julia, who we met and stayed with in Queensland last year, invited us to go on a 4-wheel drive trip in the Victoria High Country with them and some of their friends. We met up with them in Albury where Len's brother lives. Len's nephew took us out to a deer farm of a friend of his where they raise Sambar and Fallow deer.
Len's nephew Phillip and a wild fawn they are raising.

We went hiking up the hill while at our 2nd campsite
This is Andrew on the right and his cabin on the left. We camped near, or on his property, and he came by to give us some firewood and venison.
It started raining during the evening so we set up this shelter to help stay out of the rain

On Thursday we made our way to the town of Mansfield. One of the vehicles needed 2 new tires and another one needed powersteering hoses. George, the leader of our trip, had connections to a private ski lodge in the area and was able to get us rooms so we could all have a nice bed and a hot shower.

Several kangaroos came by to visit us

After a week in the High Country we came back to Len's brother's house for the night. Phil took us out to pick up deer heads and take them out to the deer farm.
Phil places the deer heads on this log to rot so he can mount the antlers
We got to see the young fawn one more time and watch him drink some milk.
We think he likes it!
