On Tuesday, April 21st very early in the morning, we left the Tasman Region and flew from Nelson to Christchurch. We rented a car and our first few stops were hitting the local Salvation Army thrift stores to find winter coats. We each found one for $7.50 and we were on our way. What a gorgeous drive!
The view on the way toward Arthur's Pass.
There were a lot of "one lane" bridges.
We stopped at a scenic lookout and there were 4 of these birds walking around the car park. It was pretty obvious they are used to being fed by people.
Linda left her car door open and one of them jumped in her seat.
View from the scenic lookout.Back on the road driving through Arthur's Pass. This is the road from the
Eastside to the Westside of the island.
We came across the "one store town" of Jackson.
Town of Hokitika. We stopped here to buy groceries.
Our drive to Hokitika Gorge.
Swing Bridge at the gorge.
The bluest and coldest water we have ever seen.
This is New Zealand's Kiwi Bird.
Dorothy Falls
Is was getting dark and we still had a 2 hour drive to make it to Fox Glacier
so we stopped here for dinner and continued on in the dark.
Can't wait to see what that drive looks like in the daylight!
