Final Days in Dublin

We spent our final days of our 3 month journey in the city of Dublin as regular tourist.  Dublin is a nice city to stroll around and see the sights.

 The Dublin Castle
Statues along the river telling the story of "The Great Irish Famine" of the 1800's
 Christ Church Cathedral
You have to tour the Guinness Storehouse and Museum when visiting Dublin

We did a tasting tour and was told of the 15 different beers Guinness makes and exports and then got to sample 4 of the most popular beers

We then got to try our hand at pouring the perfect pint
Dublin at night: Ha'penny bridge still in use from the 1800's
We can't go to a new city without going for a run
On Sunday, we decided to rent bikes to get around the city
 Saint Patrick's Cathedral
We met the pastor of this Church in Siloam Springs a few years ago so we looked it up and attended on Sunday morning
On Sunday night we went to "The Irish Whiskey Museum" and learned about the way Ireland makes and blends their whiskey
Our final night before our long trip home.  We're anxious to see our family and friends and share more stories about this journey.

We are going to South America for a month in January then back to Iceland for five weeks in March and April 2017.  Please follow along if and when you can.

Working in Moville - Our Week in the Northern Tip of Ireland

We traveled from Kinvarra on the west coast of Ireland to the very northern peninsula called Inishowen to the town of Moville.  We spent our last week in Ireland working in Moville for our host Catherine McGroarty.  Moville is a great little village of nice people and awesome views of land and sea.

This was taken in the western coastal town of Clifden
On our drive up the western coast
Kylemore Abbey: beautiful abbey and grounds where the pop singer Madonna's daughter went to school
A tradition in Ireland where people tie a piece of material on a tree to represent a problem or an issue in ones life.  Once the piece of material desolves away, the issue is gone as well.
This was the neatest thing!  We stopped in the village of Westport to walk around and get lunch and coffee and while walking around we noticed 50 to 60 people on horseback and several hounddogs; they were setting out for a fox hunt.
We saw many rainbows to include this one with one of its ends right in the middle of the highway.  We even drove right though the colors.  We looked everywhere, but no pot of gold to be found.
Our new home for the week in Moville with our host Catherine
Some the of jobs David worked on - fixing a latch on a gate
 Replaced an electrical outlet
Catherine needed a new door put on the boiler room; David was able to cut an old door down to fit
Catherine wanted a wire window put in this fenced area so her dog could see out
Linda didn't have much to do but she was able to organize this linen cabinet
Catherine asked if David could build some shelves inside this cabinet for her to put shoes in

We drove to a village known as "Famine Village".  A terrible famine swept through Ireland from 1845 to 1852.  This is one of the small stone houses in that village.
We took one day and traveled to Belfast to see the sites

Beautiful St. Anne's Cathedral in downtown Belfast

This is a monument on the side courtyard of City Hall in Belfast
Belfast castle
Just a neat looking thatched-roof house along the road on the way to Malin Head
Malin Head: the most northern point of Ireland and the site where Star Wars Episode VIII was filmed- (release date December 2017) Beautiful place!

We're told a young Frenchman died in the sea near this location
This coin was laying on the concrete base
Light house farm on the northeast side of Ireland in the town of Stroove
Bulmers Apple Cider made with 18 varities of apples; great with fish and chips
Catherine made us a wonderfull Irish breakfast for dinner
Dudley - We finally got a picture!
David can finally throw away this pair of work jeans

We will drive from the northen tip to Dublin on Saturday for 2 days before our flight home.....
