We're off on another journey this time to Norway, Iceland and Ireland. We had a great crew to see us off plus a couple of extras. We will definitely miss these guys and everyone else while we're gone. Please keep up with us on this blog and we will try our best to share all of our experiences.
Landing in Bergen
Ferry ride across the Bjornafjord on our way to Strandvik
This is Charly's and Kirsten's house. It's an old wooden-structure house from 1906 Charly bought on another property many years ago about 5 hours away. He dismantled it piece by piece and rebuilt it here overlooking the fjord.
Views from their yard
One of many Koi ponds
A train set on the side yard; a gift from friends from the U.S. Can you also see the sleeping elephant laying in the yard?
Views from our first run
Beautiful old church in Strandvik
Colorful boat houses and marinas in Strandvik
Time for work. Cutting up firewood, replacing facia on the house.
Starting to remove dirt/grass roof
Gorgeous view from the road coming down into Strandvik
Full moon rising at 10:00 pm from across the "Bear" Fjord
Lulu, Mutt and Shaggy going to town; which one is Mutt or Shaggy?
An old school house/museum from the late 1800's
One of the few remaining wooden structure churches in Norway: 800 years old.
We went to Kirsten's place of work; a recycling center. Dumpster diving for lawnmower parts.
Charly took us on a walk. This is a water-formed shaft in stone, really cool!
We headed out after supper at 8:00 PM, to walk up a small mountain to get a great look at the sunset over this Fjord and area; what a wonderful site to see at 9:30 PM.
You can see Charly and Kirsten's house at the bottom
The white you see on the mountain is the second largest glacier in Norway
Taking a break at the top
Map of our mountain sunset hike of 3.1 miles
Kirsten dropped us off on her way to work one morning for us to walk back over another mountain pass. This is an old postal pass that the postman used to walk taking short cuts through the countryside.
Many stone bridges
This is really the only coffee in town. Iced cppuccino from the grocery store.
More great views of Strandvik
Our morning walk was 5.6 miles
We will be here in Strandvik until Aug 28th, one more week. We'll keep you posted on our adventures.
"the only coffee in town"???? wow . Looks like a great start to your new adventure.
