We've been able to enjoy several hiking trails in the area while still working a few hours everyday. Below are some pictures of a hike we did to the glacier in Fox Glacier.
The actual glacier was covered in clouds, but the clouds parted just a little over the glacier as we arrived.
A waterfall on the way to the glacier and a beautiful blue lake.
We didn't get a "before" picture, but this is the workshop David created, organized, and has been working in for several weeks.
David keeping the motel grounds in tip-top shape.
Another project David has been working on is re-finishing some dining and coffee tables in five of the rooms.
One Friday night we grilled out with our hosts, Mike and Heather, and their friend Shane. Perfect summer evening in New Zealand.
Linda has been learning the office part of the motel when not making beds
We had the day off on Monday, February 8th, so our first priority was to sleep in! Next (since we are a day ahead of the US) we watched the Superbowl. Go Broncos! (Sorry Chiefs!!!)
That evening we drove 14 miles to the next village, Franz Josef. They recently opened a new theater and was showing the movie "Revenant". Below is one of the beautiful rivers we cross on the way.
We drove as close as we could to view the Franz Josef glacier
Stopped to get a treat before the movie at "Jed's"
This was our view of Fox Glacier valley as we were returning. This was taken at about 9:30 at night with the sun setting over the Tasman Sea.
This is one of our little treats we have every now and then; a fresh fruit salad
Today, Feb 11th, we went for a bike ride and hike after we finished working. We rode bikes about 5 km to one of the glacier car parks and then hiked to the view point.
On our return from the glacier viewpoint, we came across another hike we had not been on before and decided to check it out.
Just a few of the giant trees we came across!
This is a picture of us crossing the one-lane bridge over the glacier river
